Linkedin

It seems to be that that is very similar to Facebook only slightly more professional as you enter your work/qualifications. I have to say that it does worry me a bit that any potential employers could look you up on all these sites to check you out. I have a decided not to create an account as it will just another thing to keep up dated.

Explore Library Facebook Pages

Facebook is great to keep in touch which news and events and I have to say that out of all the things other than Flickr this is my favourite as it is so easy to use and all the information is in one place. Very user friendly also it is a fantastic for renewing acquaintances from the past. The UCS has a facebook page which I have just joined so this might be the best way of tapping into their world...

Create a library or personal LibraryThing

This is really great, I think that we could use it in the Library to show students all the new books that have arrived as it is quite eye catching and they might actually look at it. The fact that you can also add a classmark would be really useful too. At the moment we send the new accessions lists via email, but I do think that this would be an more appealing way to send out the information. I will speak to the Librarian and see what she thinks and then hopefully get something in place for the start of term.

Explore Library Thing

This is a very useful resource if you have a small collection of books that you need to catalogue and it is fantastic that it is so cheap. It is also very clear and eye catching and looks fairly easy to use and is not full up of too much information that is not relevant.

Reflection week

I have greater knowledge of what is out there on the web and can also understand how they would be useful, but I have to say that at the moment I am totally lost as to why use so many things to do the same job... Surely it would be better to just have all your information in one place to avoid confusion. I think that what I need to do is speak to fellow CAM 23 participants and see how they are using some of the programmes and then decide how we might be able to use them in here. The best thing that I would recommend anyone to use would be flicker as it a great resource and at times could save you loads of time taking your own photographs.

Explore Delicious

This a really useful tool and I am just thinking that perhaps we could have a delicious page stored somewhere on our Library homepage to hi-light useful sites like e-books etc. as then that way the student's might actually take notice. It would then save us having to keep sending them emails (which I don't think they always read) as we could add the information to delicious.
